“The Game” Recap

The Darlings’ money really is so dirty and sexy. In this episode, “The Game” refers to the high stakes ($20 million buy-in) poker game that both Tripp and Simon Elder battle it out in. When the stakes are really high, the billionaires bypass their million dollar chips and start betting the deeds to Manhattan real estate. Earlier in the show, Nick gets the police report from his father’s plane crash (it was deemed an accident), but when he meets with Simon Elder, the billionaire informs him that the report was tampered with before it even got to the police. He can get Nick the real report if Nick convinces Tripp to bet the Darling Plaza during the big game. We know the Darling Plaza holds sentimental value to Tripp and Trish, but we’re not sure why Simon (ever the sly guy) is interested in it. In any event, Simon of course ends up winning the deed to the property.
Meanwhile, back at the mansion, Brian warms up to the idea of having a son (after Juliet spoils Brian Jr. rotten) and Karen and Freddy try to get a marriage license…only to find out she’s still married to her 3rd husband. When Karen brings the papers to her ex’s door (Sebastian, the sexy anthropologist) they of course have sex, he signs the papers, and reminds her that no matter who she marries she’ll never get over Nick.
When Patrick and Carmelita’s public display of affection gets caught in the flash of a paparazi shot, Patrick freaks out and asks Nick for advice. Turns out it was Tripp who ordered the photographer and daddy warbucks tries convince Patrick’s lover to take his hefty check and skip town. He is so set on having his son be Senator and perhaps President and this secret lover is just a liability. But of course Carmelita is in love and so refuses…Patrick catches wind of this and vows to disown himself from Tripp and his money. Will he run away with the transexual lover?? Only time will tell. Where’s his wife in all of this anyway?
And finally we have Jeremey, the chronic slacker who will do just about anything to win his father’s approval, even if it means joining the working world at the bottom of the ladder. Nick gets him a job as a valet, parking cars at Darling Parking. When he smashes the very first car that he parks, he simply buys a brand new one in less than half an hour. The car of course belongs to a hot Latina who Jeremey promptly askes out. When she declares that he’s “not her type” he finally gets that he needs to keep his family name a secret if he ever wants to find a worthy girl.
The episode ends with us not knowing who’s the angel and who’s the villian…did Simon Elder kill Dutch? Did Tripp Darling kill him out of jealousy and betrayal? My money, my dirty sexy money, is on Trish.
