The Salt-N-Pepa Show: Sad or Entertaining?

So far VH1 is running laps around Mtv when it comes to crazy celebreality shows.  The Rock Of Love with Poison’s Bret Michaels searching for love from a pool of very eligible Vegas strippers?  Incredible.  You didn’t have to feel bad for the botoxed aging rocker who made a reference to “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” in nearly every episode because you know he was probably just there for a good time. And free liquor.

But I’m a little concerned about the Salt-N-Peppa show which reunites the early 90s rap duo in an attempt to mend the severed friendship, and ultimately “get the band back together.” It’s just all a little painful to watch. Salt feels betrayed by Pepa who bailed out years ago without any explanation.  She’s the same old fun-loving Salt, just hoping to make a comeback, while Pepa has since found a friend in Jesus and insists on changing the lyrics to all their top hits.  In one episode they were supposed to perform at Shaq’s birthday, and they wound up singing at Pep’s church instead - and it was one of those churches straight out of “Jesus Camp,” the kind that accomodates more people than Logan Airport. Not that there’s anything wrong with church - it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to fit into this equation.

Check out VH1 for video snipits of the series. This one in particular is pretty painful to watch. Not only is Pepa’s family seemingly not interested in hearing Salt’s story about their glory days, but Pepa would rather go for seconds at the salad bar than listen to her speak!

  1. It is Pepa who is telling the story of falling off the stage and Salt is the one who gets up and walks away - your blog story is incorrect.

  2. Yes, excuse me, I mixed up the salt ‘n pepa.
